Cloaking is the practice of serving different content or URLs to search engine crawlers than what human users see when visiting the same page. This deceptive technique violates Google's Webmaster Guidelines and other major search engines' quality standards, often resulting in severe penalties including complete removal from search results.

The technique works by detecting the user agent string of incoming requests and serving tailored content based on whether the visitor is identified as a search engine bot or human user.
