Local SEO

Open-source Claude skills that turn Claude into a local SEO expert

Overview

Local SEO Skills isn't software in the usual sense. There's nothing to log into. It's a library of 38 Claude Agent Skills — plain-Markdown instructions — that teach Claude how to do local SEO work: audit a Google Business Profile, interpret a geogrid scan, check citation consistency, draft review responses, and run competitive analysis. Built by Garrett Smith, who's spent 20-plus years in SEO as a practitioner, consultant, CMO, and agency owner, the whole thing is open source under the MIT license.

The 38 skills split into 26 strategy skills and 12 tool skills. The strategy skills are the reasoning — what to check, how to weigh it, what to recommend. The tool skills are the plumbing that connects Claude to data sources like Local SEO Data, Ahrefs, Semrush, Google Search Console, and BrightLocal. On top of that sit 15 scheduled task templates for recurring work and a client brief system that keeps each account's details in Claude's context between conversations.

Because it's open source, you can read every skill. That matters more than it sounds. With a typical AI visibility tool you trust a black box; here you can open the Markdown and see exactly what the audit checks and why it recommends what it does. Don't like a heuristic? Edit it. That transparency is the core argument for using skills over a closed SaaS product.

Key features

38 Agent Skills

26 strategy skills covering GBP optimization, audits, citations, reviews, and competitive analysis, plus 12 tool skills that wire Claude into data sources. Each skill is plain Markdown you can read and edit.

15 Scheduled Task Templates

Pre-written templates for recurring work like rank monitoring, review response, and reporting. In Claude Code they run on a schedule; elsewhere they're a starting point you trigger manually.

Client Brief System

A persistent memory layer that keeps each client's NAP, goals, competitors, and history in context, so Claude doesn't start from scratch every conversation.

Tool Integrations

12 integrations including Local SEO Data, Ahrefs, Semrush, Google Search Console, and BrightLocal. Local SEO Data is the default data source for most audit skills.

Multiple Install Paths

Install via the Claude.ai plugin marketplace, a one-line terminal script on macOS/Linux, a PowerShell script on Windows, git clone, or manual upload. Claude Code gives the fullest experience.

Fully Open Source

Everything ships under the MIT license on GitHub. You can read exactly what each skill knows, audit how it makes recommendations, fork it, and run it on your own infrastructure.

FAQ

Is Local SEO Skills really free?

Yes. The skill library is open source and MIT licensed on GitHub with no subscription. You only pay for the data and AI usage underneath it — a Claude plan plus whatever data source you connect, typically Local SEO Data credits.

Do I need Local SEO Data to use it?

Not to install it, but most audit skills expect a data source and Local SEO Data is the default. The skills load without any MCP connected, but the first audit will fail with guidance on which MCP servers to add.

What's the difference between this and Local SEO Skills Pro?

The open-source skills are self-hosted in your own Claude. Pro is a hosted workspace that adds persistent briefs across conversations, scheduled automated tasks, alerts, and white-label reporting starting at $99.99/month.

Who is this for?

Freelancers, consultants, in-house marketers, and small agencies who already use Claude and want a structured local SEO toolkit without paying for another SaaS dashboard. Comfort with Claude Code helps but isn't required.

How is this different from a normal SEO tool?

There's no app to log into. The skills are instructions that make Claude perform local SEO work — audits, competitive analysis, review responses, geogrid interpretation — using whatever data and tools you connect.
